In the decades before class basketball came to Indiana, every basketball fan in Howard County knew that tournament time typically meant an early exit as Kokomo dominated thanks to its size and resources.

On March 8, the final game of the 7th grade girls' Howard County basketball tournament served as a reminder of that futility. The Kokomo Lady Kats waltzed through the Eastern High School gymnasium, crushing the host Lady Comets, 47-8.

The imbalance in this contest was brutally pronounced, as Kokomo spent the first quarter smothering the Lady Comets, 21-0. As demoralizing as a shutout can be, the girls of Eastern refused to surrender. They managed to score five points in the second quarter, and three more in the third, though they could not stop the Lady Kats from extending their lead in those frames.

And the fourth quarter proved to be another helping of humiliation as Kokomo held the hosts scoreless a second time, finishing on a quarter-long 9-0 run to finish the contest.

Adalyn Bowen led the Lady Comets with four points, while Makayla Buckley and Kaydence Osborne each scored two. Kokomo did not report individual scoring.
