For the past four years, Zion Bellamy has been a pillar of Kokomo boys’ basketball, embodying skill, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the game. As a senior guard, he is a reliable scorer, an exceptional facilitator, an extremely selfless teammate, and consistently puts the team’s success above individual accolades.
His impact extends far beyond the court, inspiring young players in the Kokomo community, who look up to his dedication and character.
Zion has had a career defined by excellence. From the moment he stepped onto the varsity court as a freshman, Zion made his presence felt. Whether through clutch scoring, or making the right pass, he has been instrumental in Kokomo’s success. His ability to create offense, both for himself and his teammates, has been a vital asset to the Wildkats.
His importance to the team was especially evident during Kokomo’s 2023 state tournament run. Unfortunately, his journey took an unexpected turn when an injury sidelined him during the state finals against a dominant Ben Davis team. His absence was deeply felt, as his leadership and skill would have been key in that highly competitive game. Despite the tough loss, Zion remained positive and determined to come back even stronger.
A couple of years have passed since that historic state game, and the senior Bellamy, small in stature but mighty in heart, has had a season of record-setting performance. In his final season wearing the Wildkats jersey, Zion has taken his game to another level. His season-high 43-point performance against the rival Marion Giants was a testament to his ability to take over a game when needed.
As the regular season winds down, he stands on the verge of reaching the 1,000-point career milestone, a feat that solidifies his place among Kokomo’s basketball greats. But for Zion, individual statistics come second to team success. As the playoffs approach, he knows the key to a deep postseason run lies in preparation and unity.
“Coming into every game prepared for everything” is his mindset, and he is determined to lead his team with focus and intensity.
Zion’s future is filled with exciting possibilities. Like his older brother, Zavion Bellamy, a former Wildkats standout, he hopes to continue his basketball career at the college level. However, his ambitions extend beyond the game. He is also passionate about building his own clothing brand, showing that his drive and creativity go beyond basketball.
Through his work ethic, sportsmanship, and leadership, Zion Bellamy has set a high standard for what it means to represent Kokomo basketball. Whether on the hardwood or in the community, he has been a model athlete and role model, leaving a lasting legacy that will inspire Wildkats for years to come.
