Kokomo wins 49-34 over Lady Kings Nov. 20

The Kokomo Lady Wildkats and Lewis Cass Lady Kings faced off in an early-season battle of undefeated teams on Nov. 20, but only one would walk away with their record unblemished.

On this night, Kokomo prevailed at home by a score of 49-34 in a game where the Lady Wildkats led early and then slowly pulled away. After posting a seven-point lead in the first quarter, they continued to outscore Lewis Cass by a bucket in each stanza.

The Lady Kats were led by senior Makaela Drake (21) on the floor. She scored 15 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc. She also managed three steals.

She was joined in scoring by junior Eliana Stewart (10) with 11 points to go with eight rebounds, five steals, and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Bella Richards (11) was best on the boards with nine rebounds, and junior Amara Stroman registered six assists to go with three steals.

On the Cass side of the court, junior Aftin Griffin (5) led her team with 10 points. Junior Ava Hubner (1) provided the best defense for the Lady Kings, pulling down five rebounds and completing four steals.

The win by Kokomo was followed by a blow-out at home against Ft. Wayne South Side, 62-23, on Nov. 23 to keep the Lady Kats undefeated at 5-0. They will open North Central Conference play on Nov. 30 at Anderson (0-5).

Lewis Cass bounced back from the loss with a 57-20 drubbing of Northwestern on Nov. 22. The Lady Kings (4-1) next face Pioneer (0-4) at home on Dec. 3 in the opening round of the annual Cass County Tournament.
