Western High School made a little local sports history last week as it hosted its first-ever, sanctioned, varsity girls wrestling meet Nov. 20.

The dual meet, which pitted the Lady Panthers against the Rochester Lady Zebras, ended with a Western victory, though it didn't happen on the mat.

The two teams had six contested bouts, of which Rochester won four. But the Lady Zebras were forced to forfeit four matches due to lack of wrestlers, handing Western a 36-24 win.

Western's two wins on the mat against Rochester included Chloe Jade Johnson at 145 lbs. and Ava Roe at 155 lbs.

Eastern High School also made an appearance at the meet, fielding four wrestlers in unscored competition against the Lady Panthers.

Western took three of the four matches by pin, with just Eva Smith of Eastern winning her match at 100 lbs. against Kaylee Jackson of Western.

Western's Shaylee Walker (125 lbs.) prevailed over Eastern's Paige Kochenderfer. Laney Hamilton (145 lbs.) of Western pinned Addy Brock of Eastern, and Lady Panther Aubrey Burthay (155 lbs.) downed Lady Comet Kennedy Stone.
