As the boys’ varsity soccer season drew to a close, the Tipton Blue Devils traveled to Greentown to face the Eastern Comets. The visitors kicked their way to victory, 3-0, on Oct. 3.
Tipton scored once in the first half and added two more goals in the second en route to the win. But Eastern’s goalie, junior Alex Birnell did his best to keep the score close. He successfully defended six of the nine shots taken by Tipton during the match.
Birnell had some help at the goal as well. Sophomore Josiah Anderson registered a save, as did junior Evan Kaiser. Kaiser also hit the stat sheets with Eastern’s lone shot on goal and a steal.
Eastern senior Kyan Hannah and freshman Wade Kolyer also took shots during the match, though neither found the back of the net.
Tipton finished the 2024 season with a 10-6-1 record. They received a bye in their sectional and defeated Rossville, 2-1, in their opening match. The Blue Devils lost the sectional final, 3-1 to Carroll High School.
Eastern finished its season at 5-11. It then got demolished in the opening round of the sectional by Maconaquah High School, 13-0. Northwestern High School was the eventual winner of that sectional.
