Even though the season, at that time, was only nine days old, the Eastern Lady Comets varsity volleyball played its eighth match on Aug. 27. This contest had Eastern facing the Lady Wildkats on the road at Kokomo, just three days after the two had competed against one another at the Kokomo Invitational.

Eastern played spoiler at the invitational, handing Kokomo a 2-1 loss. But the Lady Wildkats got revenge last Tuesday with a 3-2 win.

Against the Lady Wildkats, senior Audra Flanary was dominant, registering 16 kills, two aces from serve, two blocks, and 27 digs. Sophomore Mackenzie Appleton joined Flanary on the leaderboard with 12 kills, two blocks, and 11 digs.

Sophomore Josie Odle also made some noise, completing four kills, two aces from serve, three blocks, and 23 digs. Senior Katie Hendricks added 22 digs and one ace from serve in just a single set.

Even with the setback, Eastern is enjoying success this season. It quickly rebounded from the Kokomo game with wins against Western on Aug. 28 (3-1) and Rossville on Aug. 29 (3-1). This brings Eastern’s record to 7-3, with their next contest at Delphi on Tue., Sept. 3.
