Western downs Kokomo Lady Wildkats 4-1 on Aug. 17

The Western Lady Panthers came to play. That message was clearly sent to the Kokomo Lady Wildkats on Aug. 17, as the Panthers took the soccer season opener 4-1 on the road.

The Lady Panthers were led by a strong crew of freshmen, including Norah Ewing, who managed two goals against a Lady Kats defense that clearly had holes to fill.

Kokomo is in rebuilding mode, having lost eight starters to graduation last year. The new team, still learning from each other, often seemed disconnected, but that didn't stop Iris Brehm and her sister, Layla, from making an impression.

Late in the game and determined to make a mark on the scoreboard, Iris took a pass from her sister and found the net to save face and show that Kokomo has potential waiting to be tapped.

Kokomo moves on to face Oak Hill on the road Aug. 21. Western, which played to a 4-4 draw at Lafayette Jefferson on Aug. 19, will host Harrison on Aug. 21.
