I have always said one of the best things about my job as an outdoor columnist is I get the pleasure of meeting many people associated with the outdoors lifestyle and industry.

I have always been a camper. My wife and I raised our kids by exposing them to the great outdoors, and that included many trips to campgrounds and facilities scattered throughout Indiana and neighboring states. Even though our children are now married and have their own families, they still enjoy camping.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a fairly new camper business, and you talk about impressed! I visited Stellhorn RV and Camping Center, located at 3116 W. Boulevard St. in Kokomo. I reached out to them and wanted to get some information to share with my readers about their business and the services they offer. They started the business in 2020 and have had tremendous customers visit and purchase camping units.

I was greeted by manager Doug Stellhorn. He was extremely polite and gave me a hearty handshake and welcomed me. When I first entered the store, I was impressed with what I noticed: a very impressive showroom, with offices situated conveniently.

I gave the aisles a quick eyeball as we walked to the opposite end. I had talked with April Mossburg when I arranged for the interview. She is the controller and has amazing knowledge of the business and does her job well. We sat at a round table, and I started asking many questions. They both were quite well-versed and did not hesitate searching for answers.

They have a huge inventory of new and used, top brand-name units, including Salem, Flagstaff, and Chaparral, just to name a few. They also have firewood and Traeger grills, and the company is family-owned and operated.

They are also the only company in the state of Indiana offering "warranty forever" options on all new units. Make sure to inquire about the specifics of this.

Stellhorn stated they have factory-trained service technicians and staff members and thrive to have service turnaround within a week, depending on whether they have to order parts. They have a complete, full-service business.

After I had made some notes, April took me on a guided tour up and down the aisles, showing me tons of accessories, parts, top-of-the-line grills, and all types of items for upgrading your camper. Golly, they had every imaginable type of trailer hitch. They had back-up monitors, BBQ sauces and seasonings, grill covers, camping games, and all types of electronics.

If they don’t have it, you don’t need it. And if they don’t have it, they can get it. I teased them and said they could use that statement anytime they wanted.

April took me into another area where they had several camping units customers could actually view indoors. I was astonished with everything and how organized and clean the facility was. She showed me the customer service area which was indeed impressive and truly a work of art.

We walked around outside. The property is massive and well-maintained. She showed me the new unit area and where they have outside camper storage. The appearance from the outside of the business is just as impressive as the inside. They also had a special area for refilling propane tanks, and the parking lot area was very adequate for customer parking.

This place is second to none. I guarantee they will be seeing me again. Doug said they want customer for life, and I told him he just got one ... ME!

Stellhorn RV and Camping Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. They are closed on Sunday.
