Kokomo's swimmer dominates MIC swim championships

Kokomo eighth grader Shanna Fowler is making waves in the world of swimming. Competing in the Mid-Indiana Conference (MIC), Shanna has officially stepped out of the shadow of her father, former Kokomo High School football and basketball standout, Herman Fowler.

Her father, who was a 2023 Silver Anniversary Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and a former Indiana Hoosier linebacker, couldn’t be more proud.

“God, thank you for the beautiful, talented, smart, ambitious young lady,” Herman said, reflecting on Shanna’s achievements.

Shanna’s performance at the MIC Middle School Conference Championships was nothing short of remarkable. She secured two conference titles, becoming the 400 SCY (Short Course Yards) freestyle champion with a time of 4:24.87, and the 100 SCY breaststroke champion with a time of 1:12.03.

Her victory in the 400-yard freestyle marks her second consecutive MIC title in that event, solidifying her dominance in the pool. But Shanna isn’t stopping there. Her fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke currently stands at 1:10. She’s determined to break that personal best.

As this talented young swimmer continues to chase greatness, the Kokomo community stands proudly behind her. If you see Shanna around town, be sure to cheer her on and let her know how much support she has from her hometown.

With her talent, work ethic, and faith-driven mindset, there’s no limit to what Shanna Fowler can achieve.
