Lois Ruth Grotrian
Lois Ruth Grotrian, 92, Kokomo, went home to Heaven at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from Primrose in Kokomo. She was born December 14, 1931, in Hoagland, Indiana, the daughter of the late Clifford D. and Evelyn M. (Drage) Houk. On September 7, 1952, in Hoagland, Indiana, she married Ralph Alton Grotrian, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2017.
Lois was a graduate of Hoagland High School and the International Business College in Ft. Wayne. She grew up on a farm, driving a tractor and helping her dad. She retired in 1994 from Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer where she had served as the church secretary for 27 years.
Lois’ greatest joy was serving God by spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in many foreign countries as well as right here at home. She and Ralph participated in many mission trips and most of the church ministries. Lois was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Gideons International Auxiliary. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a shining example of God’s love to all she met. Lois was quick witted and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking and loved helping care for and raise her grandkids.
Survivors include her daughters, Kristine (Jeffery) Himelick, Kokomo, Susan Evans, Greentown, and Sara (Matthew) Peterson, Kokomo; grandchildren, Erin (Justin) Estle, Amy (Brandon) Lewis, Megan Nelson, Tori (Joshua) Hayes, Lindsey (Zack) Pence, Emily (Andrew) Pohl, and Tyler (Ashleigh) Peterson; granddaughter-in-law, Annette Himelick; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother-in-law, Tom (Janet) Grotrian; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jason Himelick; great-grandson, Lucas Pohl; and siblings, Robert Houk, Phyllis Affolder, and Harry “Bud” Houk.
Lois' family wishes to thank all those who demonstrated their care and concern during her final days, especially her pastors and the care teams at Primrose and Compassus.
