Jon Sewell
Jon Sewell, 57, of Galveston, Indiana, was surrounded by his loving family and best friend when he passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on March 15, 1967, to his parents, Jack & Patsy (Coleman) Sewell.
Jon graduated from Northwestern High School in 1986. He played basketball for the Tigers and standing at 6 feet, 10 inches, he put fear into the opponents that he faced.
After high school, Jon worked on area farms doing farmhand work. He also was a truck driver for several years. He completed his EMT training in 1999 and started working at Howard Community for about a year. In 2000, he took a full-time job at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo, formerly known as St. Joseph Hospital. He worked in the EMS department on the ambulance, taking care of the sick and injured citizens of Kokomo and Howard County. Jon worked at St. Vincent for approximately 24 years until he had to retire this past spring of 2024 due to health reasons.
Jon’s hobbies were fishing, fishing, and more fishing. Jon loved to get out in his boat with anybody who would go. He loved being outdoors on the water. He traveled to several states and even Mexico and Canada on fishing trips with his fishing buddy Dave Williams. Jon also enjoyed cutting wood, warming up to a cozy fire at home, hunting deer, and spending time with family and friends.
Jon was never married but had tons of family, friends, and EMS co-workers who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Patsy Sewell. He is survived by a sister Kathy Crowe and her husband Randy of Kokomo, a brother Brian Sewell and his wife Sue of Rochester, niece Bethany (Sewell) Anderson and her husband Tyler of Rochester, and nephew Nathan Sewell and his wife Amanda and their daughter Charlotte of Rochester. He is also survived by his best friend Dr. Dave Williams and his wife Nina of Kokomo. Jon had several uncles and aunts, some of which have passed, and many cousins who are still living.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, Indiana, with Jon’s brother Pastor Brian Sewell officiating. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to raise much-needed funds to cover the funeral expenses. No donation is too small, and your support would be greatly appreciated. Donations also may be given to St. Vincent EMS in Jon's memory: https://give.stvincent.org/ways-to-give/donate/kokomo. Please designate “Other” then enter EMS in memory of Jon.

Glen Eugene Heard
Glen Eugene Heard of Raymond, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Allons, Tennessee, January 16, 1950, to the late Clyde Puckett and Earnest Geraldine (Jones) Heard, his family relocated to Tipton County, Indiana, after their farms were flooded by the TVA to create Dale Hollow Lake to supply water to the area.
He married Lynn Y. (Grimes) Heard of Marysville on December 29, 1971. Together, they travelled the country with Irby Construction Company while he was a lineman building high voltage power lines. After their children were born, they decided to settle down in Union County. He continued line work with The Fishel Company before beginning a career with Honda of America, retiring in 2008. After retirement, he began building barns with several Amish crews. His last job was in July of this year.
He is survived by his son, Jason (Teri) Heard and their children Hunter (Emily), Walker (Meredith), Lincoln, Kennedy, and McKinley, his daughter Jodi (Andy) Sheets and their children Shelby (Austin) and Gracie (Casey): sisters Betty Hopkins, Ruth Turner, and Ruby Stratton, along with several nieces and nephews.
His happiest moments were when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. To say he was proud of each of them is an understatement. He was preceded in death by brothers Don, Doug, and Jim Heard.
Glen was always the first one to offer help wherever it was needed, especially for his friends and neighbors on Hoover Bault Road. He never wanted to be the center of attention ~ just wanted to get the job done without any fanfare. That was just the person he was, no frills, just plain and simple. He worked hard all his life and never complained. He fought hard to the very end, pushing himself up and standing on his own two feet the morning he passed. In his true style, he never quit.
Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the wind to help the flowers grow. If you must bury something, let it be my faults and weaknesses. If you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.
A Celebration of Life will take place on October 19, 2024, at the Union County, Ohio, Fairgrounds in the last barn he helped build. A short service will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by anyone who wishes to share stories of their memories of Glen.
Grace Christine Reed
In the quaint town of Bernie, under Missouri's sky,
Grace Christine Reed was born, with a twinkle in her eye.
On Christmas Eve of '62, the world received a gift,
A soul to spread such laughter, every heart she'd lift.
She grew in love and wisdom, with words she'd artfully weave,
Her poetry, like music, made it hard for us to grieve.
In Kokomo's embrace, she found her final rest,
On October's sixth, she left us, flying to her heavenly nest.
Grace's life was a tapestry, rich with threads of joy,
She penned her thoughts in "Behind Bars," her words we still employ.
Her voice, a melody, in song she found her peace,
In the kitchen's warmth, her cooking was a masterpiece.
Family gatherings were her stage, her humor shone so bright,
With tales and jokes, she was the star, a beacon in the night.
Her wisdom, like a lighthouse, guiding ships through stormy seas,
Her creativity, a river, flowing endless, with such ease.
A daughter of Berdie Snow and Richard James, she came,
Siblings Rachel, Marie, Pat, Doris, Ronnie, Terry—familiar names.
Her legacy continued with her daughter, Courtney Wilson's, light,
And grandchildren Zyonna, Jyrena, Jirique, stars in the night.
Great-grandchild Zakye Mills, a bud in the family tree,
A reminder of her spirit, living on so free.
Though Tony Reed, Latoya Burton left too soon, and David, Larry too,
Their memories in Grace's heart, forever they'd imbue.
From Clarkton High she ventured forth, with diploma in her hand,
To Ivy Tech College, where her dreams took flight, so grand.
In Kokomo, Indiana, her journey found its end,
But in our hearts, dear Grace lives on, an everlasting friend.
So here we stand, in loving memory, of a life so fully lived,
To Grace Christine Reed, our thanks, our love, we give.
For funny quips and wisdom deep, for creativity that soared,
We'll miss her laugh, her gentle touch, the one we all adored.
Let's raise our voices, sing her song, in harmonies so sweet,
For Grace, our cherished loved one, whom again we'll someday meet.
Her story's not concluded, in us it carries on,
For Grace Christine Reed's melody, it's an eternal song.
