Jerry Nathan Tate
Jerry Nathan Tate, known to his loved ones as Nate, passed away on June 9, 2024, in his hometown of Marion, Indiana. He was born on May 12, 1951, in Marion, Indiana.
Nate was a man of great responsibility and orderliness, traits that were evident throughout his life. He was in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he laid the foundation for a successful future.
One of the milestones Nate's life was his dedicated service in the United States Air Force, where he served with honor before receiving an honorable discharge.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Edith Breckenridge, along with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. While Nate may no longer be with us, his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on June 20, 2024, starting at 10:45 AM at the Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana. It will be a time to remember Nate's life and legacy.

Robert Alan Giles
Robert Alan Giles was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on December 20, 1936, and passed away on Father’s Day, June 16, 2024, at the age of 87. He was one of seven children born to Vivan and Margaret Giles.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 40 years, Mary Ann (Lamb) Giles; brothers, Fred, Bill, and Gerald; sisters, Beverly Cobb, Carolyn Steur, and Jean Frazier.
Robert is survived by his four children, Debra Begley, Teresa Nixon, Robert Giles II, and Michael Giles; ten grandchildren, Jason Begley, Laura Ramer, Jerry Smith, Josh Smith, Angel Hornbeck, Rachel Kern, Robert Giles III, Tiffany Wrightsman, Emily Giles, and Hannah Giles; and many great grandchildren.
Robert served in the United States Navy from February 9, 1954, to October 15, 1957, after being honorably discharged he returned to Howard County to settle, marry, and work. He retired in 1995 as a loyal member of UAW Local 685 from Kokomo’s Chrysler Transmission Plant after 30 years of service. Robert loved and served the Lord Jesus Christ for over 50 years and was always happy to fellowship with anyone who would do so. His loss is immense, and our love for him is without end.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main Street, Greentown, IN. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Shirley Ann Heffelmire
Shirley Ann Heffelmire, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 21, 1951, in Monticello, IN, the daughter of the late Robert and Sena (Geisler) Miller. On December 27, 1987, she married David Heffelmire, and he survives.
Shirley worked for PPG for 10 years before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, garage sales, fishing, playing jokes on family and friends, and occasional trips to the casino. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and was always there if you needed someone.
Along with her husband, Dave, Shirley is survived by her daughter, Angie (Amy) Stanley; grandchildren, Jessica (Derek) Davies and Derrik (Mikel) Bell; six great-grandchildren, Chloey, Hunter, Sadie, Ryleigh, Dylan, and Garrett; siblings, Kenny (Judy) Miller and Darlene (Ralph) Strik; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Danny Adams; and siblings, Leslie Miller, Richard Miller, Cora Miller, Louise Waite, Lou Stidham, Becky Satterthwaite, and Florence Johnson.

Sandra “Sandy” Grant
Sandra “Sandy” Grant, 82, of Kokomo, passed away peacefully at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo on Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was born on December 5, 1941, in Rankin, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Edward Michael Schaeffer Sr. and Florence V. (Fleming) Schaeffer. On December 10, 1975, she married Talmage A. Grant, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1998.
At age 11 she competed in swimming for the Junior Olympics in Denver, Colorado. She placed in the top five despite not having time to acclimate to the altitude. She traveled there from Kokomo by bus, alone, to meet her coach. Her passion continued throughout her life, swimming regularly at the YMCA until she broke her shoulder in 2023.
Sandra was a 1969 graduate of Kokomo High School. She attended Indiana University of Kokomo in the Seiberling Mansion, where later she became a museum volunteer, sharing the glories of Kokomo’s rich history through her personal experience and her entertaining way of telling stories.
She moved to Chicago after high school, where she taught swimming to the famous Eisenberg family. She supported her first husband while he was earning his doctoral degree at University of Chicago. They moved to the south where he taught at the University of South Florida, and she continued her college education, earning a Master’s degree and becoming an elementary teacher for 30 years.
Sandy loved children and took great pride in educating the students at Seffner Elementary School in Tampa, Florida. Her special education class learned about standard deviation in a science project that led them to present at a statewide competition. She poured into everyone she knew with a genuine interest. Look at the photos of her where she does not focus on the camera, but rather the person in front of her.
She was in love with Talmadge and said that he was a true Southern Gentleman. He called her “Sam” and she called him “Grant.” They were a great match that complimented each other well. They both liked giving more than receiving.
This is who she was – full of life, energy, intelligence, love, compassion, and a willingness to volunteer. She served in the Teachers Union, local government, civic organizations, Brookside Free Methodist Church, Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox ministries, and so much more. She joined Christ Lutheran Church in Kokomo in recent years. Above all, she loved Jesus. She longed for heaven in her last days as she found comfort in Psalms 23 and old hymns.
Sandy enjoyed playing games, connecting with people, learning, and teaching. She opened her home to foreign exchange students, combining her passion for culture and travel. With a love for animals, she believed every house needed a pet and even gave a few as gifts.
We extend a special thank you to all of the friends and family who cared for Sandy around the clock during the last month in her time of need (you know who you are).
She is survived by Talmadge’s daughters; Linda Cameron, Brenda Raby (and her daughter Tia), and Wanda Huntley (husband Greg and son Adam), all of Florida; sister Carol Brown, sister in-law Judy Schaeffer Sargent, both of Kokomo. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish the memories of time spent with her and lessons she taught us.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Talmadge Grant; son in-law, Dwight Cameron. Her siblings: Edward “Mike” Schaeffer Jr (Melba), Gordon Schaeffer (Marge, Barbara), Clara “Lucille” Fellow (Charles), Margie Eileen Geary (Tom), Nancy Elise Bowser (Jack Sr.), Marilyn “Ruth” Bitner (Arvin, Ralph), Jerry Dale Schaeffer and brother in-law Max Brown.
There will be a time of visitation Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 3401 S. Dixon Road, Kokomo. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Paulette Stahlke officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory. Jerry Bo Martin
Jerry Bo Martin, 36, of Kokomo, passed away on June 14, 2024, at his home. Bo was born in Kokomo, on May 4, 1988, to Jerry Glenn Martin and Teresa Marie (Childs) Marner.
Bo completed his GED and was currently working for Mahan Construction, restoring and cleaning gravestones. He was raised attending Pilgram Holiness Church, in Kokomo, but had recently been a loyal member of Mercy Church, in Kokomo. Bo loved to camp and fish. He was a handyman and enjoyed working on cars. Above all, Bo loved his family and his God.
Bo is survived by his father, Jerry (Shelley) Martin; step-father, Jeff Hodson; step-mother, Patty (Scott Ewing) Martin; children, Brinden Bo Martin, Matthew Hardesty, Gavin Scott, Cadence Scott, Addison Scott, Easton Overman; siblings, Alishia Moore, Jeffery (Summer) Hodson, Sarah (Tony Perez) Martin, Brittany (Cameron Sutton) Luna, Austin (Phillip Peterson) Hodson, Alisa (Devon) Atherton, Joshua Sturgell, Alyssa Eitnier, Victoria Martin, Olivia Martin, and Jacob Martin; special friend, Ashley Overman; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Bo was preceded in death by his mother, Teresa Marner; and grandparents, Myron and Gloria Childs and Charles Hayes and Luella Martin.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, on Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be scheduled for a later date in Elwood Cemetery. Betty Jo Napier
Betty Jo Napier, 85, of Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at her home. She was born on June 5, 1939, in Kettle, KY, the daughter of Rev. Belve and Florence Nannie (Siler) Sizemore. On August 29, 1955, she married Robert “Bob” Lee Napier, and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2022.
Betty has received her healing and is standing in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Many years ago, she put her trust in Jesus. When faced with cancer, she took it in stride, witnessing and praying for those who, too, were going through treatments. Through it all, she kept her faith.
Family was very important to her. She loved her girls, and God blessed her with wonderful sons-in-law. Betty, of course, spoiled her grandchildren and was so excited when the great grandchildren were born. She enjoyed it when the house was full and when all the families came together with laughter that filled the rooms. Betty missed her mother and father and spoke of them often, and how she would love to just talk to them again.
When you asked her if she could change anything in her life, her answer was always “Not one thing, I had a good life with Robert, and he was a good father and husband. We never worried about a thing.” Betty was a Proverbs 31 woman and loved going to church where she led the choir and taught a Sunday School Class. She was a member at Trinity Holiness Chapel, where she loved the fellowship and gathering with her church family.
Betty is survived by her children, Sharon (Jimmy) Stevenson, Patricia “Pat” Napier, and Tamara “Tammy” (Bill) Pinkston; grandchildren, Josh (Candy) Stevenson, Jake (Lindsay) Stevenson, Abby (J.C.) Fleenor, and Jessie(Jorge) Becerril; step grandchildren, Kayla (Brad) Kidwell, Kevin (Mariah Walter) Smith, and Drake (Aylen) Nichols; great grandchildren, Carter Stevenson, Austin Stevenson, Aubriana Stevenson, and Arivah Fleenor; step great grandchildren, Abigal Gurner, Justice Gurner, August Kidwell, and Hayden Smith; brothers, Billy Jack (Debbie) Sizemore and Ronnie (Debbie) Sizemore; sister-in-law, Marlene Napier and Barbara Sizemore; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Robert, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Sizemore, Barbara Sue Sizemore, and Charolette Ann Sizemore; brothers, Belve Sizemore Jr., Randal Ray Sizemore, and Paul Edwards Sizemore; sister-in-law, Berthe Napier; and niece, Betty Jean Hobbs.
The family would like to thank those who prayed and came to visit Betty. A special thanks to longtime friend Sue Tayler, Dennis and Tammy for being such good neighbors, Pastor Michael Perry and family, the hospice team who helped care for Betty, Dr. Sherri Nuss, Karen, Sue, Annie, and Cathy.

Cecil Andrew Coffey
Cecil Andrew Coffey, 82, of Kokomo, IN, was called home June 17, 2024, at Waterford Place Health Campus after a brief illness. He was born in Kokomo, IN, on December 24, 1941, the son of the late Cecil W. and Belva A. Coffey. On September 17, 1960, he married the late Judith Kay (Chambers) Coffey.
Cecil was a 1959 graduate of Western High School. He retired from Delco Electronics after 30 plus years of service. Cecil spent his time in security at the factory but always enjoyed time farming on his home place that he loved so much. In his lifetime, he spent many hours following his children and grandchildren in their extracurricular activities. Later in his life, he enjoyed tractor pulls, sprint car races, and time on his Harley-Davidson.
Cecil was a man of few words, but the knowledge that he shared was a blessing. He was a strong man, and he was most content with time spent on his porch talking with his family and friends.
Cecil is survived by his three daughters, Janet K. (life partner Carolyn Haynes) Coffey, Joan (Ryan) Shrock, Julie (Joe) Stephens; grandchildren, Cheyanne Shrock, Madison Dalton, Ainsley Dalton; brother, Captain James G. McIntyre of San Diego, CA; and several dear nieces and nephews.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Kay Coffey; parents, Cecil and Belva Coffey; in-laws, Don and Margaret Chambers; sisters, Dr. Jeanne Southworth of Pittsburg, Marajean A. Morris of Carolina Beach; and several aunts, uncles, and nephew.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday June 24, 2024, at Stout & Son Funeral Home – Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, IN 46979. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at the funeral home with Scot Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden.
