Madeline Roe

Madeline Roe, 92, Kokomo, the Matriarch of the family, went to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus, on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 7 p.m., surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 8, 1931, in Speedwell, TN, the daughter of the late Roy and Ollie (Brewer) Shiflet. She married Paris Hugh Roe on June 28, 1949, under an apple tree in Monroe, MI. They would have celebrated 75 years of marriage this June.

Madeline went to work at Kingston Products shortly after moving from Michigan to Kokomo in October of 1963. She later worked at Cuneo Press and Delco Electronics, retiring in 1993. She attended Powell Valley School in Speedwell, TN, earning her GED in the 1970s. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Pacers and the Colts. She had a passion for traveling the U.S. and visited all but 6 states. If you were to ask her what her hobbies were, she would tell you God, family, and church. Madeline was a passionate member of Maple Grove Community Church.

In addition to her husband of 74 years, Paris Hugh Roe, Madeline is survived by her 4 sons, Roger (Sandy) Roe, Kokomo, Terry Doyle (Debra) Roe, Kokomo, Jim (Kristi) Roe, Maryville, TN, and Brian (Carla Wright) Roe, Martinsville; daughter, Wanda Jean (Darrell) Skaggs, Brownsburg; step-daughter, Terry Sue (Jim) Young, Louisville, KY; 3 siblings, Wilma Carter, Speedwell, TN, Jim (Ellen) Shiflet, Franklin, WI, and Harold Shiflet, Tazwell, TN; 8 grandchildren, Paris Gabriel (Lori) Roe, Dallas Amber Roe, Jesse May, Mark (Jennifer Creasey) Skaggs, Jeff (Shirlene) Skaggs, Chad Roe, Torrey (Bambi) Roe, Graham (Suzi) Roe; step-granddaughter, Tara Lynn; step-grandsons, Logan Tong and Aaron (Sydney Hess) Tong; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Madeline was the rock of the family and taught her children how to love, and the true meaning of family.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother; 17 siblings, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Jefferson Manor, Wellbrooke of Kokomo, Ascension St. Vincent Hospital with special thanks to Gina Roe, Compassus Hospice with a special thanks to Rhonda Pagan, and Pastor Talon Paul for their excellent care.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Talon Paul officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, April 9, 2024, and 1 hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
