Larry Joe Parker
Larry Joe Parker, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023, at the age of 81 in Kokomo, IN. Born on December 26, 1941, in Tipton, IN, to the late Russell and Elise Abbott Parker, Larry's life was defined by his generosity, craftsmanship, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.
A proud graduate of Clinton Central High School, Larry dedicated his life to the construction industry. His hands built more than just structures; they crafted a legacy of hard work and diligence that would define his character. He was a man who could fix anything, a trait that earned him the admiration and respect of those who knew him.
Larry was a loving father to Jon Parker and Deirdre (John) Sutherin, Gwendolyn Parker, and he held a special place in his heart for his late sons, Timothy and Matthew Parker. His love knew no bounds when it came to his family, and he shared a profound bond with his grandchildren, Nicole Parker, Amber Ryan, Elizabeth Alexander, Kevin Parker, Chris Parker, and Kenny Centers. Their cherished "Grandpa Larry" was a constant source of support and wisdom.
He is survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Bonnie Jean Parker, who, along with Larry, created a foundation of love and unity for their family. Larry also leaves behind his daughters-in-law Lane Center-Parker, Tara Henderson, his brother Kenny (Pat) Parker, and was predeceased by his brothers Richard, Bob, and Jack Parker. His beloved cat Ella will miss his gentle touch and warm presence.
Larry's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid woodworker, he took pride in creating beautiful pieces that served as a testament to his skill and patience. His coin collection was a source of fascination and a hobby that he approached with the meticulousness of a true collector. Larry's love for the outdoors was evident in the time he spent sightseeing and appreciating nature's beauty with his family. An enthusiastic reader, he found solace and adventure within the pages of books.
Those who knew Larry would describe him as handy, generous, and spirited. His ability to breathe life into wood and machinery was matched only by his desire to give to others. To say that Larry was supportive would be an understatement; he was a pillar for many, offering his help without hesitation or expectation of anything in return.
As we remember Larry, we reflect on the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, a quote that he often recited and lived by: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Larry's life was a true embodiment of these words, and his success is measured not in material wealth but in the love and memories he leaves behind.
In his passing, Larry Joe Parker leaves a void that cannot be filled, but also a legacy that will continue to inspire. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the beauty of giving. As we say goodbye to a man of great spirit and love, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Larry's life was a journey of love, laughter, and service, and his story does not end with his passing. It continues in the lives of his family, who will carry on his spirit of generosity and joy. We honor the life of Larry Joe Parker, a man who was truly one of a kind, and we hold dear the time we were privileged to share with him. Rest in peace, dear Larry; your legacy will endure.
