Carlyn D. Laubenstein

Carlyn D. Laubenstein, 86, of Kokomo, passed away at 10:27 am on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. She was born on May 14, 1937, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of Carl E. and Dorothy L. (Witter) Iwert. On September 3, 1960, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, she married Allan E. “Al” Laubenstein, and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2011.

Carlyn graduated from Cedarburg High School and University of Wisconsin School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse before she and Al started their family. Carlyn loved her home and her family, and she enjoyed cross stitching and quilting. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

She is survived by children, Linda (Bob) Frey, Mark (Marta) Laubenstein, and Peter (Kerri) Laubenstein; grandchildren, John (Jayne) Frey, Sarah (Sean) Ryan, Kirsten Frey, Anna Laubenstein, Amy Laubenstein, Matthew Laubenstein and Luke Laubenstein, great grandchildren, Samuel Frey, Theo Frey, and Henry Frey; sister, Sally (Phil) Neustedter; and several nieces and nephews.

Carlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Al Laubenstein; parents, Carl and Dorothy Iwert; and brother, James Iwert.

The family is thankful for all those at Wellbrooke who took such good care of her there. Her nurses Kathy, Karen, and Maria were a special blessing – as well as hairdresser Barb. The family is also thankful for the truly exceptional care provided to her by Dr. T and Ascension nurses Melinda, Rachael, and Vicki.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 E. Southway Boulevard, Kokomo, with Pastor John Dreyer and Pastor Carl Hingst officiating. Private entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the church. Alan Franklin Addington

Alan Franklin Addington, 84, Kokomo, passed away at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 24, 2023, at his home. He was born November 27, 1938, in Kokomo, the son of the late Paul F. & Inez Elnora (Rush) Addington. On December 7, 1963, at First Christian Church in Kokomo, he married Rose Marie Burton who preceded him in death on January 20, 2023.

Alan was a 1957 graduate of Eastern High School. He then graduated from Indiana University IU Medical Center in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Alan owned and operated Medical Service Laboratory as a medical technologist for the last 51 years. He also worked for IU Medical Center, Mershon Medical Lab, Mendelson Clinic and as a school bus driver. He enjoyed woodworking, shooting, photography, sailing and playing the guitar. Alan was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church.

Alan is survived by his children, Lara (Mike) Coles, Greentown and Brent Addington, Lawrence, IN; granddaughters, Alannah (Corey) Scott and Allison (Charlie) Doak; great-grandchildren, Ajax Scott, Boston Scott and Auroa Scott; sister, Myrtle Jean Brinson; nieces, Kathy Sparling, Tonya Brown and Shannon Ross, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Rose Marie Addington.

Funeral service will be held at 5:00 pm Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Fr. Michael Henry and Pastor Logan Sparling officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3-5 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be held in St. Andrew Church.
