Lorene Johnson

Lorene Johnson, age 79, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was born to Hiram and Pearlie (Bradford) Prater on September 27, 1945, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, where she attended Prestonsburg schools. Later in life, she worked for Taylor school system, where she was a loved and valued employee as a cook until she retired.

Lorene enjoyed activities like gambling and gardening. She lovingly cooked for everyone — family, friends, students and staff at the school, anyone — and she loved to go eat as much as she loved cooking for others. She had a firecracker personality and relished making people laugh. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She was always at softball games, supporting her granddaughter or taking the grandkids to Highland Park to feed the ducks. Her spirit, warm generosity, and kindness will be forever missed by all those who were lucky enough to know her.

Surviving family include her children, Jean (Todd) Stephens, Loretta Bean, John Jr.(Tammy) Johnson, Ben Johnson, Joshua (Ashley) Johnson, and Marjorie Johnson; sisters, Mary (Earl) Cole and Orbie Johnson; 27 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Lorene was preceded in death by her father and mother, Hi & Pearlie Prater; first husband, John Marvin Johnson, Sr.; ex-husband, Gerald Shanabarger; as well as eight brothers and sisters, and one daughter.

A time of visitation for Lorene will be held Monday, December 30, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a funeral service and by burial at 1:00 PM.

Lorene will be laid to rest in Santa Fe Cemetery, Peru, IN 46970.



Marjorie Somerton Carver

Marjorie Somerton Carver, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Bloom Kokomo. She was born in St. John's Newfoundland, a dominion of the British Empire at the time, on September 11, 1924. She was the daughter and only child of Herbert and Celia (Somerton) Noseworthy.

Following her graduation from Bishop Spencer College in commercial studies, she went to work at Fort Pepperrell Military Base and was employed as a secretary in Command Headquarters. It was during her employment at Fort Pepperrell that she met her future husband, Harry Daniel Carver, a private and MP in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They were married on June 4, 1946, in St. John's Newfoundland. In the fall of that year, she moved to Kokomo, Indiana, to begin married life with her husband in his hometown. Together, they had four children. Marjorie attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Altar Guild and a Sunday School teacher. She later attended Trinity Anglican Catholic Church in Peru and then Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Marjorie is survived by her children Brian Carver (Kathy), Lorraine Carver, David Carver (Vickie), nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, son, Harry Daniel Carver Jr., and grandson, Johnathon Carver.

Beverly Louise Johns

Beverly Louise Johns, 88, of Kokomo, IN, died on December 23, 2024. She was born on October 12, 1936, in Kokomo, IN, the daughter of Bryan and Leona (Strayer) Sturgeon.

Our momma passed on to the Lord and into the arms of the love of her life, Bob.

Her first marriage was to Gail Leroy Price, Sr. Their children are Linda Kay Nix and Gail Leroy Price, Jr. They later divorced. Grandchildren are Shawn (Deena), Kelly (Billy), Casey, Corey, Kayla (Mark); great-grandchildren are Brendan, Darrin, and Aylee.

Her second marriage was to Charles T. Johns. Born to them is Susan Marie Johns. They later divorced.

Then, along came Bob. They were so happy together until his passing in 2014.

She was preceded by her parents, stepfather, both husbands, a great-granddaughter, Ryana Alexis Nix, and angel boy Charles Glenn Johns, and her great love, Bob.
