Carol Joan Jewell
Carol Joan Jewell, 95, of Kokomo, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, in the comfort of her daughter’s home.
She was born on February 14, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter of the late William Ross and Iva Martha (Bechdolt) Thornton.
Carol met William “Bill” Jewell during their sophomore year while attending Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. After graduating in 1947, they were married on November 6, 1947. They were married for 72 years, and she was still sitting on his lap and giggling with him toward the end of their marriage. They set a beautiful example.
Bill and Carol lived in several Indiana cities including Terre Haute, Lafayette, and Battle Ground. They settled in Kokomo in 1963, and after many years, Carol retired from Delco Radio.
Carol was a longtime member of the Center Road Church of Christ and the Alto Road Church of Christ. In addition to her relationships with God, her family, and her friends, Carol was passionate about exploring her creative side. She was an incredibly talented painter and loved to write and garden. She also loved playing cards and was very good at Bridge. She and Bill enjoyed several years traveling in their RV, and were members of Indybagos, a Winnebago traveling group. Over the course of their marriage, they had three boats and enjoyed their time on the Wabash River and later on the Mississinewa Reservoir.
Family was important to Carol, all generations and branches of family. She enjoyed family gatherings and often hosted those gatherings around their swimming pool. Many a relative has memories of those parties.
To know Carol was to know what it meant to love and be loved, to know how to laugh without inhibition, and to know that one did not leave the house without proper attire and lipstick. You might also have known the proper color of toast.
Surviving Carol are her three children: Connie Raichart, Larry (Liz) Jewell, and Randy (Denise) Jewell; six grandchildren: Michelle (Tim) Hobbs, Christina (Sean) Dawson, Carol (Chris) Andrews, Shawn (Lisa) Jewell, Michael (Diane) Jewell, and Billy Jewell; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brand new great-great-grandchild born just three days before Carol's passing.
The memorial service will be held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Sunday, December 22, 2024, with visitation starting at 3:00 p.m. and the memorial service immediately following at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
