Thomas W. Phifer
Thomas W. Phifer, 81, of Tipton, died peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, at The Waters in Tipton. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 24, 1943, to Wilbur and Margaret M. (Weber) Phifer. On April 11, 1964, he married Susan D. Leach, and she survives.
Tom was a 1961 graduate of Tipton High School and attended Franklin College. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Hoosier Open Seniors Bass Club and the U.S. Angler’s Choice Bass Club. If he couldn’t be on the water, he loved to spend time on the links playing a round of golf.
Tom would be best known as the State Farm Insurance agent in Tipton where he had just completed his 55th year of caring for his customers. Tom was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church, the Tipton Elks Lodge #1012, the Tipton Chamber of Commerce, Tipton FOP #109, and was the current chair for the Fairview Cemetery Board.
Survivors include his wife Susan, sons Tony Phifer and wife Christine of Tipton and Travis Phifer and wife Leslee of Tipton. Tom was very close to his grandchildren and invested multiple hours watching them with their activities. His grandchildren are Kyle Reed, Zachary Reed, Dawson Phifer, Megan Phifer, Trayjan Phifer, Jie Sue Phifer, Blake Edwards, Sam Edwards, Jayce Edwards, and a great-grandchild, Collins Reed.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tanya Sue (Phifer) Reed.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 14, at 1:00 P.M. at the Atlanta Christian Church with Rev. Jody Brown presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 13, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and also Saturday at the church beginning at noon.
