Joseph “Joe” Edward Smith
Joseph “Joe” Edward Smith, 74, of Russiaville, passed away 11:22 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born in Logansport, IN, on March 10, 1950, the son of the late Gayle Edward and Winifred (Skelton) Smith. On June 7, 1998, he married Carolyn Ross, and she survives.
Joe was a 1968 graduate of Logansport High School. He attended trade school through the Department of Labor to become an electrician. He retired from Delphi as an electrician. Joe was a devoted, strong-willed man who had an ornery sense of humor. He was thoughtful and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and time spent with his grandchildren. Joe had the biggest heart for animals. He had an animal refuge filled with cats, dogs, squirrels, birds, and more that he fed and cared for. He was a member of the Greentown Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Yorkrite, and Elks Lodge. He was known for being a master carpenter and owning at least two of every kind of tool.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, Joe is survived by his children, Sommer (Rick) Craig, Damon (Kristin) Smith, Lydia (Brandon Penticuff) Ross; brother, John (Patty) Smith; grandchildren, Colin Craig, Sophie Craig, Steven Mount, Nolan Smith, Kelsey Smith, Zack (Shayla) Ashley, Olivia Ashley, Serena Scalf, Chase Pearce, Myles Pearce, Sean Pearce, Katie Pearce, Clara Pearce; and great-grandchild, Zachariah Ashley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Gaile Jean Kaufman, Susie Hayes.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from Noon to 2 p.m. Sunday November 3, 2024, at Stout & Son Funeral Home – Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, IN 46979. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Grant officiating. Masonic Rites will be provided at 2 p.m. by the Greentown Masonic Lodge. Burial will take place in Saint John’s Cemetery in Logansport later. Contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the American Heart Association.
Matthew “Matt” Daniel Davis
Matthew “Matt” Daniel Davis, 37, of Sharpsville, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024. He was born on January 15, 1987, the son of Gary L. and Maureen (Callahan) Davis. On October 10, 2009, he married Diana McAninch at St. Patrick Catholic Church, and she survives.
Matt graduated from Northwestern High School in 2005. He then proceeded to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Purdue University and a master’s degree from Ball State University. Matt was presently employed with C.G.I. Technology and previously worked for the Department of Defense for 15 years as a civil servant. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters, reading Sci-Fi books, working on the Chevy Nova with his dad, traveling, and helping his daughters with their 4-H projects. Matt loved the fall season with bonfires and good music. He was a member at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church – Tipton.
Along with his wife of 15 years, Diana Davis, Matt is survived by his children, Evelyn Davis, and Sophie Davis; parents, Gary & Maureen Davis; and siblings, Jacob (Adrian) Davis, and Annalisa Davis.
Matt is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tom & Diane Davis; and maternal grandparents, Francis & Theresa Callahan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 340 Mill Street, Tipton, IN, with Father Dennis Goth the celebrant. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 204 North Church Street, Sharpsville, IN. Fred Timmons
Fred Timmons, 81, Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 11:45 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2024. He was born March 5, 1943, in Logansport, IN, to Palmer and Rosemond (Campbell) Timmons. On June 11, 1964, he married Joyce Woolley who survives.
Fred worked for Haynes in Kokomo, retiring after 34 years of service. He also proudly owned and operated his heating and refrigeration business for more than 50 years. Fred was an active member of Christian Heritage Worship Center where he served on the board and as a deacon. He enjoyed watching basketball and most recently was an avid Indiana Fever fan. Most of all he loved his family and cherished time spent with them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Timmons; children Yvonne Walker and Regina Timmons; grandchildren, Michael Timmons, Taylor Timmons, and Jasper Timmons; sister, June Garner; and a brother-in-law, Terry Woolley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Junior and Jean Woolley; one brother; three sisters, and a son-in-law, Lennis Walker.
Funeral services celebrating Fred’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2024, at Christian Heritage Worship Center, 3007 E. Carter St., Kokomo, with Pastors Devan Cole and Steve Bratcher officiating. Burial will follow in North Union Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
