Viola (Reynolds) Downs

Viola (Reynolds) Downs, 96, of Greentown, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Century Villa Health Campus in Greentown. She was born in Kentucky on January 31, 1928, the daughter of the late Chester and Josephine (Lunsford) Reynolds. On August 16, 1945, she married Raymond “Gene” Downs, and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2024.

Viola was a strong, caring, and patient woman. She was the ultimate caretaker and housewife who cared for her husband and helped raise their daughter. Viola found joy in attending family gatherings and birthday parties. She adored her granddaughter and great-granddaughters. She was skilled in sewing, baking, and crocheting. Her favorite hobbies were fishing and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a believer in Jesus and recently attended Bethel Tabernacle Church in Kokomo.

Viola is survived by her daughter, Pam (Freeman) Fox; granddaughter, Amy (Brent) Dechert; great-granddaughters, Mara Dechert, Keara Dechert; siblings-in-law, Gladys and Bud Ritzline, Ronald and Barb Downs, Kenneth and CJ Downs; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Ernest Reynolds; and sister, Rosetta Huckelberry.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Hasler–Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, IN 46936. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastors Logan Sparling and Stephen Branstutter officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown.
