Marcia A. Hodson

Marcia A. Hodson, 84, of Galveston, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 20, 2024, from Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born July 14, 1940, in Kokomo to Chalmer R. and Dorothy (Shively) Cunningham. She married Harold D. Hodson on February 20, 1959. Harold preceded her in death on August 22, 2007.

Marcia graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education. She later earned her master’s degree in library studies from Purdue University. She served as a teacher, librarian, and worked as a medical transcriptionist later in life. She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, eating out with family and friends, bible study with good friends at Galveston First Baptist Church, QVC, and special family trips to Disney World.

Surviving family include her children James Hodson, Laurie (Mark) Fox, Jeffrey (Annette) Hodson, and Brad (Yvette) Hodson. Surviving grandchildren are Adam P. (Chrissy) Fox, Alyssa (Trevor) Campbell, and Tyler (Kristi) Hodson. Great grandchildren include Kylie, Torrie, Taylor, Nathan, Noah, Rosalie and Benjamin. Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, brother Richard Cunningham, and grandson Shaun Fox.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12:00 noon with special friend Jean Robertson officiating. Marcia will be laid to rest next to her husband Harold in Galveston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research in care of the Indiana School of Medicine, 980 W. Walnut St. Indianapolis, IN. 46202. Betty J. Smith

Betty J. Smith, 93, of Kokomo, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at her home. She was born on May 21, 1931, in Kokomo, the daughter of Leon and Edith Elizabeth (Rayl) Parkey. On December 7, 1957, she married E. Ross Smith, and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2021.

Betty graduated from Kokomo High School in 1949. She worked as a Financial Secretary. Previously she worked at Temple Pittman Association. Betty enjoyed crocheting, planting large gardens, and antiquing. She especially loved cooking large family dinners and sewing her own clothing. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church.

Betty is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Harold) Ingersoll, Andrew Smith, Daniel (Lisa) Smith; grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Jessy Ingersoll, Claire Smith, and Jaclyn Smith; nephews, Steve Rich, and Brent Rich; niece, Linda Williams; and great nephews, Jonathan Parkey, and Michael Rich.

Along with her husband, E. Ross, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Thomas (Hazel) Parkey.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Rev. Ruth Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home. Norma Jean (Brubaker) Lowry

Norma Jean (Brubaker) Lowry, 92, of Kokomo, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at her home. She was born in Burlington, IN, on December 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Roy and Waneta (Haun) Brubaker. On August 31, 1952, she married Russell Allen Lowry, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1997.

Jean was a graduate of Burlington High School. She attended Indiana University for her undergrad and later earned a Master’s in Education from Indiana University. She briefly worked at Jefferson House of Flowers, and she served her career as a case worker in Howard County for the Indiana Family Social Service Administration. Jean was a self-sufficient and strong woman who spoke freely about what was on her mind. She developed a soft spot in her heart for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling. Jean was skilled at knitting blankets and quilts and would often gift them to friends and family.

Jean is survived by her children, Jeff (Kim) Lowry, Mike Lowry, and friend Carolyn Burbank, Lisa (Jon) Condit, Lora (Steve) Hart; 10 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with another one the way; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Myron Brubaker, Alan (Peggy) Brubaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Marion Perrigeaux.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. to Noon Friday, July 26, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902. Ronald Ray Swope

Ronald Ray Swope, 64, of Bunker Hill, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024. He was born on July 6, 1959, the son of Donald Eugene and Emily Jean (Pasley) Swope.

Ronald attended Taylor High School. He worked as a Brick Mason building fireplaces. Ronald enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, telling jokes, collecting NASCAR memorabilia, and baseball cards. He often participated in Euchre tournaments and was a big Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. Ronald had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. He adored his family and was very sentimental.

Ronald is survived by his siblings, Jennifer (Mike) England, Donnie Swope, and Jim (Lisa) Gilsinger; nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.

Preceding Ronald in death along with his parents, Donald and Emily; brother, Mike Swope, and stepfather, Harland Gilsinger.

Marilyn Ruth Zimmerman

Marilyn Ruth Zimmerman, 92, of Muncie, IN, passed away July 18, 2024. She was born on May 13, 1932, in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of Lawrence Lloyde and Jessie Fern Witzel (Ozenbugh). She married Thomas Paul Zimmerman who preceded her in death.

Marilyn loved cooking for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters and playing cards. She also enjoyed watching cowboy shows and Wheel of Fortune. Marilyn will be missed by family.

Surviving relatives include her daughters, Stella Zimmerman of Kokomo, IN; Ruth Ann Zimmerman of Muncie, IN, and one sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.
