Dawn Louise Baldwin (Earles)

Dawn Louise Baldwin (Earles), age 64, of Kokomo, Indiana, died at 4:21 PM on July 9, 2024. Born January 30, 1960, in Kokomo, she was the daughter of Dorothy May Earles and the late Noel Franklin Earles. On February 3, 1978, she married John Richard Baldwin, and he survives. Although they were legally divorced in 2016, they stayed friends in love with each other, taking on everyday challenges, often together. Dawn was many things in life but was best known as a caregiver. She raised her three sons, cared for her grandmother Blanche Louise Somers until her passing in 2004, and her father Noel Franklin Earles until his passing in 2010. Dawn loved animals, gardening, crafts, and family.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy May Earles of Kokomo; three sons, James (Melissa) Baldwin of Kokomo, Thomas Noel (Gabby) Baldwin of El Paso, Texas, and Joseph Franklin (Sandi) Baldwin of Kokomo; ex-husband, John Baldwin of Kokomo; sister, Linda Maze of Kokomo; six grandchildren, Aaron, Alexandria, Ryan, Donovan, Samantha, and Hannah; niece, Jennifer Hatt; and nephew, Jason Hatt.

Dawn was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

There will be a time of visitation for Dawn on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 12:00 PM until the time of service, 1:00 PM, at Ellers Mortuary and Cremation Center, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, 2097 W. Alto Rd., Kokomo.



John William (Bill) Salmons

John William (Bill) Salmons, 92, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on July 8, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Assisted Living of Kokomo.

He was born June 27, 1932, to Wade Salmons and Lela (Kelly) Salmons. On January 5, 1951, he married Nita Lindsay, officiated by the Reverend Harry Jones in Forest, Indiana. They were married for 73 years, and she survives.

He was a 1950 graduate of Galveston High School and had a 40-year career at Haynes Stellite, retiring in 1991.

He and his wife, Nita, were lifelong residents of Galveston. They lived on the same family property, where he was born, for over 90 years and he was a member of the former Galveston United Methodist Church.

In his free time, he enjoyed reading, working the newspaper puzzles, mowing, mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling, coaching his sons’ Galveston Little League baseball team, and spending time with his loving family.

In addition to his wife, Nita, Bill is survived by his children, David (Carol) Salmons, Daniel (Patricia) Salmons and Scott (Cindy) Salmons; grandchildren, Sara (Ben) Jenkins, Emily (David) Prather, Jason (Leeann) Salmons, Matthew Salmons, Andrew Salmons, Kelly (Brian) Foreit, Wade Salmons, and Sarah (Kin) Mak; great-grandchildren, Maddie Jenkins, Livy Jenkins, Ava Prather, Lila Prather, Anna Foreit, Tyler Foreit, Nolan Foreit, Jordan Mulkey, and Amber White; great-great-grandchildren, Kaden Dell, and Kennedy White.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Wade Salmons; mother, Lela Salmons; and sisters, Wanda (Gene) Kranz and Betty (Bill) Heino.

The family would like to thank Primrose Assisted Living of Kokomo for their exceptional care over the past 19 months as well as Paradigm Hospice for their outstanding care during the last month.

A memorial service will begin at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, located in Galveston, with Pastor Doug Benham officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon prior to the memorial service.

Burial will be in the Galveston Cemetery followed by a meal for friends and family hosted by the United in Faith Church of Galveston.

Cathy J. Mathews

Cathy J. Mathews, 77 years old, passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born February 10, 1947, at Logansport Cass Memorial Hospital to Paul John Shideler and Rosalie (Ronk) Hutchins. She was raised from a small child by her mother and wonderful father Kenneth R. Hutchins and Rosalie Hutchins. She married the love of her life, Harold Max Mathews, on December 3, 1982, and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2010.

She graduated from Kokomo High School. She retired from Delphi Electronics in 2006. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo and a member of the Omega Phi Tau Sorority, Chi Chapter, where she served as National President for three terms. She served as Taylor School Corporation as a board member from 2014 to 2022.

Cathy loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, create beautiful cross-stitch pictures for her family and friends, and scrapbooking. Above all else, her top priority was spending time with her family and three best friends, Darla Arnett, Ellie Dobbins, and Darlene Berry.

Cathy is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Betty) Walter of Kokomo, Sherri (Brad) May of Lafayette, Kimberly (Phil) Ferrel of Michigantown; sons, Brian (Monica) Calhoun of Lafayette, Greg (Ruth) Mathews of Lafayette; grandchildren, Leah (Amada) Mathews, Justin (Miranda) Harrington, Ryan Calhoun, Dustin (Annalyssa) Mathews, Joshua (Brooke) Walter, Matthew (Alessa) Ferrel, Courtney Calhoun, Jennifer (Andrew) Sullivan, Nathanial (Delaney) Walter, Taylor (Chelsea) Ferrel, Derrick (Ashlynn) Mathews, Marcus May, Robbie Robbins; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Chloe, Chase, Conner, Gemma, Piper, Kyan, Alyx, Maddison, Gaberial, Mikaila, Mason, Mikhi, Maleigh, Raine, Maxwell, Kolson, Jace, Jax, Josie, Jonas, Julian, Olivia, Emma, Aubrie, Ignacio, Sofia, Adrian, Grayson, Ellis; siblings, Sandra Hulet, Jeffrey Hutchins, Pam Young, Jeff Shideler, Mark Shideler, Paula Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Daniel Hutchins, brother-in-law, Walter “Ike” Hulet.

Emily Hope Carter

Emily Hope Carter, 40, of Kokomo, Ind., passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at her home. She was born on August 13, 1983, to James Michael Donaghy and Jeanamarie (Willis) Porter. On October 23, 2021, she married Luke Joel Carter at Grace Baptist Church, and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Luke, Emily is survived by her mother, Jeanamarie Porter; her stepfather, Virgil Franklin “Bud” Porter; her sons, Jonathyn Jay Reese and Cato Lee Rodriquez; her siblings, Mattie Rae Donaghy and Nolan James Donaghy; her aunts, Sherry Hobson, Brenda (Steve) Harlan, Glenda Lowdermilk, Melyssa Hubbard, and Melinda (Dennis) Bolen; her uncle, Kenney Willis; and her many cousins, extended family members, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, James; her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Cecilia Willis; her paternal grandparents, James A. Donaghy and Darlene (Atchley) Donaghy; and her uncles, Patrick Donaghy, Wayne Hobson, and Michael Lowdermilk.

Emily graduated from Tri-Central High School in 2001. She joined the United States Army Reserves and served as a photojournalist in Iraq with the 350th MPAD, which was attached to the 82nd Airborne, in 2003. Emily returned home a decorated Specialist who was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal With “M” Device. Following her honorable discharge from the military in 2009, she earned her associate’s degree from Ivy Tech.

Emily Hope loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and soul. The first baby born to Beulah Land Church, she volunteered for their Vacation Bible School and occasionally sang on Sundays with her friend, Holly. Later, she became a member of Grace Baptist Church with her husband. Emily loved animals and spent much of her time with her own pets while also volunteering for the Kokomo Humane Society. Her family was very dear to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Emily’s absence is acutely felt by her family, who mourn her loss as they hold onto cherished memories of her presence. She will forever be remembered as a kind, humble and caring person who, despite her own challenges, always endeavored to help others whenever possible.

Emily’s family wishes to extend an invitation to those who knew and loved her to her viewing and funeral. The viewing will take place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Beulah Land Church (6569 N 400 W, Sharpsville, IN 46068). The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, at Beulah Land. Burial will follow in Jackson Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. John Alan Blackburn

John Alan Blackburn, 78 years old, of Frankfort, passed away July 3, 2024, at his home. He was born in Lafayette on October 2, 1945, the son of the late George and Betty (Strong) Blackburn.

John was a graduate of Middlefork High School. He attended Purdue University and Indiana University. John proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Colonel in the Air Force, and he retired as a Civil Servant in the Air Force. John always looked for ways to help others. He was a reserved man, but he treasured the people and things that were close to him. He adored his pet cat named Luther. John was a skilled handyman which served him well with his interest in construction, remodeling projects, and working on cars. He was also an avid reader.

John is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Mitchell) Seiden, James (Cindy) Blackburn; sister, Patricia McQuinn; sister-in-law, Patricia Blackburn; grandchildren, Trevor (Kayla Brown) Blackburn, Abigail Blackburn; great-grandchild, Brayden Blackburn; mother of their children, Patricia Partridge; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Mike Blackburn.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Stout & Son Funeral Home – Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St. Russiaville, IN 46979. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jason Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Middlefork Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Clinton County Humane Society or the VFW Post # 0012.



Betty Ann (Burt) Schroeter

Betty Ann (Burt) Schroeter, 90, Kokomo, passed away at 4:04 p.m., July 4, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born January 14, 1934, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late Lowell and Edna (Harper) Burt.

Mom attended Northwestern High School where she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, our dad Rudolf Schroeter. They began their 71-year marriage in 1953. They raised their three girls on the farm and mom was dad’s right hand with keeping the books and many other farming tasks. Together they loved fishing in Canada, watching Purdue basketball, playing euchre, the Indy 500, long drives through the country, and especially family gatherings.

Mom was gifted at painting, sewing, knitting, jewelry making, rug hooking, decorating, and making beautiful cards. She loved the Lord and shared that love with whoever she met.

A short wait and now our parents are together again.

Betty is survived by her three daughters; Lyn Schroeter, Lisa (Bruce) Bryant, and Lori (Chip) Cravens; grandchildren, Aaron Whitehead, Chad (Karen) Cravens, Clint (Emily) Cravens, Andrew (Ann) Bryant, Justin (Allie) Bryant and Travis (Hannah) Bryant; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Larry) Fellows; brother, Tom (Connie) Burt; and sister-in-law, Sandy Burt.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and soulmate of 71 years Rudolf; brothers, Bob Burt, Jim (Pam) Burt, Charles (Pat) Burt, Jerry Burt, and infant brother Ronnie Burt; and granddaughter, Amie Hubbard.

The family would like to thank the many friends and staff at Wellbrooke for their love and care. We also would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angel, and “In Stitches with Deb” for the beautiful handmade gown.

Sylvia Adrian Smith-Graham

Sylvia Adrian Smith-Graham, 78, of Kokomo, passed away on July 5, 2024, at Community Howard Hospital. Sylvia was born on September 12, 1945, in Lafayette, IN, to Theodore J. and Julia N. (Redden) Smith. On March 4, 2004, she married Patrick Graham, in Kokomo, and he survives.

Sylvia graduated in 1963 from Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, IN, and went on to receive her Associate in Dental Hygiene from Purdue University and Bachelor of General Studies from Indiana University Kokomo. She worked as a Dental Hygienist for over 50 years, recently retiring from Hearn Dental Care. Sylvia was loved by every one of her patients and took care of many people throughout her career. She loved her dogs and walked her dogs every day. Sylvia loved birds, plants, and gardening. She was an avid shopper and enjoyed shopping at TJ Maxx, yard sales, and thrift stores. Sylvia enjoyed her lunch dates with her best friend, Sandy; it was always a special and eventful occasion. She was a jovial person, but greatly enjoyed being a smart ass to people. Sylvia loved her kids and grandkids with her whole heart.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Patrick; children, Zira Detchon, Aeneas Smith Detchon, Terry Graham, and Mark Graham; grandchildren, Zoe Detchon, Noah Cone, Carter Cone, Truman Cone, and Daley Detchon; siblings, Lelsie Ullstrup, Phil Smith, and Brian Smith, as well as their families; best friend, Sandy Coffey; and soul dog, Petey.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, and dogs, Macy Jo and Otto.
