It was a clean sweep for Northwestern basketball as the girls’ 7th and 8th grade teams hosted the Lewis Cass Lady Kings at the end of February. Both teams found success in dominating fashion.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers utilized an effective full-court press, which resulted in turnovers that they converted into points. The Lady Tigers also won the battle of boards.

The Lady Kings found their own offensive opportunities, getting into the paint and putting shots up. They were successful from the charity stripe, sinking more free throws than they missed.

In the eighth-grade game, Northwestern’s size and speed overpowered Cass’s ability to move the ball down the court. The Lady Tigers took advantage of fast-break opportunities and second-chance points to defeat the Lady Kings.

The eighth-grade team was led in scoring by Journie Johnson, a recent transfer from Western who has led the area in most offensive statistics.
