Northwestern fine-tuning its game as sectionals loom

The Northwestern Tigers wanted some momentum heading toward the end of the regular season, and they got it on Feb. 18 with a win against the Blackford Bruins in boys' varsity basketball, 46-41, on their home court.
Northwestern started out solid, pushing to a 12-8 lead in the first quarter, but Blackford stormed back in the second, outscoring the Tigers, 15-9 to lead by a bucket at the half, 23-21.
Northwestern didn't let that margin stand. The Tigers returned from the break with renewed motivation. They steadily recovered and slowly walked away from Blackford, leading by two after three quarters, 34-32, and further extended the lead to 46-41 by the end of the game.
Northwestern was led by Hayden Cook, who scored a game-high 14 points. Bradyn Wilson added 10 points.
The Tigers managed to hold Blackford to just a single player breaking double digits. Junior Mason Kitteman managed 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Bruins.
Northwestern wrapped up its regular season at home with a loss against Oak Hill on Feb. 25, bringing its record to 12-8. The Tigers will host West Lafayette on March 5 in the opening round sectional of the IHSAA State Tournament.
