Sheriff struggling with telephone scam
The HCSO has received several calls reporting another telephone scam. The caller is identifying themselves as Sgt. Justin Markley of the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and wants to speak to someone regarding a legal issue.
The most recent scammer is leaving a voicemail and asks the person to contact them at the Howard County Sheriff's Office at (765)-273-8969 in order to seem legitimate. The Sheriff’s Office has no such telephone number.
As a reminder, no member of the HCSO will ever contact you via phone requesting money for any reason. This includes donations, warrants, taxes, etc. Although 99.9 percent of these scams are foreign based, you are still encouraged to call 765-457-1105 and let the sheriff’s office know when they are occurring so that it can warn others.
Please keep your money. You’ve worked hard for it.
