The thermometers have survived the early winter weather so far, and by the look of it, they’re actually heating up. United Way Serving Howard and Tipton Counties is entering the homestretch of its 2024 funding campaign, and the community has helped it reach nearly 70 percent of its goal.

Now is the time for businesses and individuals in Kokomo, Tipton, Greentown, Russiaville, and all points in between to help United Way blow the top off those thermometers and hit the fundraising goal. With just four weeks remaining, the organization needs approximately $400,000 to meet its $1.3 million goal.

According to United Way CEO Dana Neer, there are still many businesses and organizations conducting pledge drives with their employees, and several donors are contemplating their donation levels. But it takes everyone to make the magic work, he said.

“We love our donors, and we truly appreciate every employee who gives through workplace campaigns and businesses that have agreed to pledge their help to United Way,” said Neer. “It takes every individual, from the business owner to the entry-level worker, for us to achieve our goal for 2024.

“As we approach Christmas and the start of an exciting new year, this is a perfect opportunity to lift up your community and help improve the lives of your friends, your neighbors, and your fellow citizens."

United Way helps dozens of nonprofit organizations throughout Howard and Tipton counties annually. It funds programs that serve individuals across a spectrum of needs. Whether it is ensuring children can read and enjoy nutritious meals, helping seniors and veterans with physical and emotional needs, or connecting people with the services and assistance to get them through a difficult phase in their lives, United Way is at the center of those efforts.

“I am amazed and humbled by the generosity I have seen from our community over the past two years,” said Allie Tomlinson, United Way’s Director of Campaign. “I have so much gratitude for the people who volunteer to help us throughout the year, as well as those who find it in their hearts to give so that we can make an impact in our community.

“I encourage you all to join in the effort. No donation is too small. No effort is insignificant. You are making a difference in the lives of individuals in Howard and Tipton counties when you give to United Way. There isn’t a better Christmas gift than that!”
