Book lovers are invited to the annual Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale happening the first weekend in November.
Each year, the Friends of the Library hosts two book sales where visitors can find books for adults, teens, and children, as well as DVDs and Blu-rays, CDs, audiobooks, and more. Items are marked at low prices, with many items listed at $1 or less.
This year’s Fall sale is set to coincide with November First Friday’s Shop and Stroll theme.
“This is a great opportunity for people looking to get a jump start on their holiday shopping to find something great for everyone on their list,” said Caele Pemberton, president of the Friends of the Library.
Pemberton added the Friends’ shelves are full, meaning there will be a wide variety of books to purchase, with everything from recent bestsellers to classics.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the sale will be open only to members from noon to 5:30 p.m. Then, from 5:30-8 p.m., the sale will be open to everyone. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the sale is open to the general public from 9 a.m. to noon. Visitors can purchase materials with cash or card.
Friends of the Library memberships can be purchased at the door at a cost of $5 for an individual, $10 for a family, or $100 for a lifetime membership.
Ivy Tech offers QMA Insulin Administration class
Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo is offering a two-day QMA Insulin Administration course in Peru that concludes with taking the state certification examination.
The class will be offered Ivy Tech’s Peru instructional site, 425 W. Main St. Classroom instruction is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 12, with practice testing scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. The state exam can be taken at the testing centers on the Ivy Tech campuses in Kokomo or Logansport at a future date.
Legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly in April 2019 allowed qualified medication aides (QMAs) to administer insulin to specific patients at licensed health facilities. Previously QMAs were permitted to administer certain medications orally, but not by injection.
Bill sponsor State Sen. Justin Busch, R-Fort Wayne, said, “This common-sense solution could help save lives and add optional additional training for existing workers to increase their skill level to meet the needs of Indiana’s workforce.”
This course will instruct the QMA in the roles and responsibilities of insulin administration. Ivy Tech Community College is an approved Indiana State Department of Health Qualified Medication Aide training program location. Prior to any insulin administration, the individual must currently be on a QMA registry or have completed the QMA 100-hour training and successfully completed a QMA Insulin Administration course like the one Ivy Tech is offering.
The fee to take the class is $200. Students must provide a copy of their valid QMA certification as well as provide a state-issued identification card or driver’s license.
To register for the QMA Insulin Administration class or for more information, please contact Chuck Williams at (765) 252-5590 or cwilliams1190@ivytech.edu.
