The Howard County Fire Chiefs Association has issued a county wide burn ban. This took effect on Oct. 8, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. and will remain in effect until the fire chiefs have decided that the risk of damaging fires has decreased.

According to Landen Bartley, president of the association, this decision was based on multiple factors, including the current dry conditions, the absence of rain in the near future, and the heavy fire load of unharvested crops.

The burn ban means, no outside burning of any kind is allowed.
