On Wed., July 10, the Kokomo Park Band will present “Music of Magic and Mystery” at 7:30 p.m. in Highland Park. The program features a pre-show by the Kokomo High School Marching Wildcats at 7:10 p.m.
The free concert, sponsored by cfc Advisers, Inc., features clarinetist Isabelle Droll, winner of the 2024 KPB High School Solo Competition. Popcorn and drinks will be available from the "Serving in Love Team” of Morning Star Church. The program is part of the weekly KPB Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Kokomo Parks Department, the Miller Fund of Community Foundation of Howard County, the Allen Whitehill Clowes Foundation, Center Township, and the Arts Federation in cooperation with the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The event includes an “Instrument Petting Zoo” beginning at 6:30 p.m. Kids will have the opportunity to explore and try out woodwind, brass, percussion and string instruments. It is a collaborative effort between the KPB and the Kokomo Symphony Youth Orchestra. Sound of Music is providing instruments.
In the case of rain, the event will move to the Kokomo High School Auditorium. The decision to move inside is generally not made until 5 p.m. with announcements posted on Facebook and with a recorded announcement at 765-319-8554.
The Kokomo High School Marching Wildkats are the current defending Indiana State Fair Band Day Champions and have a long tradition of excellence. This will be the premiere performance of the music for their 2024 competition show “Aquarium.”
They are preparing for their upcoming season which culminates with State Fair Band Day on Aug. 2. The band is under the direction of Brandon Anderson, Justin Ekstrom, and Deanne Wideman.
Isabelle Droll is a 2024 graduate of Western High School and was a KPB Side-By-Side participant throughout high school. Her achievements include Indiana All State Honor Band in 2021 and 2024, Purdue Fort Wayne’s Three Rivers Honor Band, and 2023 winner of the Kokomo Musicale's Kathleen Graham Scholarship Competition.
Isabelle attributes her success to her teachers Dan Healton, Jonah Andreatta, and Dr. Stulz-Dessent, and to the support and encouragement from her mother, Angela Sims. She plans to continue her education at the Jacobs School of Music at IU Bloomington. She will perform “Viktor's Tale” from "The Terminal" by John Williams.
