Rain won't dampen spirits or stop the music at this year's Howard Co. 4H Fair

The Howard County 4H Fair is here, and despite the rainy forecast, there will be plenty to see, eat, and enjoy.

The festivities really shifted into gear on July 8, with animal judging, drag racing, and the Little Miss Howard County Princess Pageant and Miss Howard County Queen Pageant. All of those features return today, July 9.

The Miss Howard County Junior Queen Pageant takes place at the south grandstands at 6 p.m., and the Miss Howard County Queen Pageant follows at 8 p.m. Drag racing takes place at the northwest grandstands at 7 p.m.

Additional features today include the Medicinal Bluegrass Band performing on the north stage at 7 p.m., and of course the Midway rides open at 3 p.m. Today is Kokomo Tribune Day, so ride wristbands will be available.

There are several events which take place daily. Granpa Cratchet sets up shop in the Pioneer Village daily at 5 p.m., 7 p.m., and 9 p.m. He is joined by three new features. The Show-Me Swine Racers will run wild at various times just north of the commercial building. The Walking Tree Man will roam the fairgrounds throughout the week, and the Wide World of Animals, also located north of the commercial building will entertain fairgoers at various times through the week.

What promises to be a wet Wednesday, July 10, hopefully will be dry enough in the evening for the JC Project, performing at 7 p.m. on the north stage, and for the annual talent show at the south grandstands at 7 p.m. An antique tractor pull dominates the northwest grandstands at 7:30 p.m.

It's WWKI Day on the Midway on July 10, which means rides are $2 each.

Thu., July 11, is a big day for music as The Checkered Vans take the north stage at 7 p.m., and Cook and Bell sing out at the south grandstands at 8 p.m. A truck and tractor pull takes place at the northwest grandstands at 7:30 p.m.

Hoosier AM/FM Radio is the sponsor for the Thursday Midway, which means wristbands will be available.

On Fri., July 12, the Howard County Sheriff's Department will put on a K9 demonstration with their four-legged deputies in the livestock pavilion at 5 p.m. The 4H 10-Year Ceremony follows at 7 p.m. in the livestock pavilion.

The north stage will feature Cora Kendall at 7 p.m., and the south grandstands play host to Emily Ann Roberts at 8 p.m. A truck and tractor pull will kick up dust at the northwest grandstands at 7:30 p.m.

The final day of the fair is notable for its "Pay one Price" Midway day. Vouchers, which are on sale in advance, will be honored from noon until 8 p.m.

The livestock pavilion once again welcomes the Howard County Sheriff's Department, this time for a crash demonstration. Hoping not to do so much crashing, the riders of Autocross will race in front of the northwest grandstands at 7 p.m.

Fairgoers will have to make a tough decision for their Saturday evening musical entertainment. Cumberland Gap occupies the north stage at 7 p.m., and Major Danger storms the south grandstands at 7 p.m.
