Charles Jansen, 54, a former employee of St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Kokomo, was arrested on Sun., June 23, on a Level 4 felony charge of Vicarious Sexual Gratification. The arrest comes a little more than a year after allegations of his inappropriate behavior with teenaged boys surfaced in April 2023.

Jansen was arrested and booked into the Howard County Jail at 11:25 a.m. on the single felony count. The apprehension comes after a year during which the Kokomo man fled the community, abruptly resigning from public boards in the wake of the accusations coming forth.

The Level 4 felony charge could result in up to four years of imprisonment if Jansen is found guilty.

Jansen disappeared from public life at the end of April 2023 when he was terminated by the church. A few weeks later, two of Jansen’s victims came forward with alleged details of how the educator paid them to perform acts of a sexually gratifying nature, including screenshots of texts confirming payment for stomping on Jansen’s food, chewing it up and spitting it out, and urinating into a crockpot for his use.

The Indiana State Police began an investigation following the allegations coming to light, and on June 6, 2023, the Catholic church issued a statement, disavowing it from Jansen and his alleged behavior.

Jansen’s case will be handled in Howard Superior Court II, with Judge Rebecca Vent currently presiding. No details on potential bonding were made available by the Howard County Sheriff’s Department.
