Stop dwelling on the past

The world needs you to be an example of hope, love, and service

Critical thinking is essential in today’s world, especially when we face overwhelming challenges and uncertainties.

Ecclesiastes 7:10 says, “Do not say, ‘Why were the old days better than these?’” This verse reminds me that while it’s tempting to long for the past, God has placed us here, in this exact time, for a purpose. What we see in the world may be troubling, and logically, it’s easy to feel hopeless about the future. Yet, we were made for these very times.

Rather than dwelling on what was, we have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. Each of us is positioned to leave a mark in a world that desperately needs hope, love, and service. People are watching how we respond. They need us to be examples of hope—individuals who live for today, refuse to be self-serving, and consistently seek to bless others. By doing this, we inspire others to see that there is still goodness to be found and cultivated.

When I’m tempted to complain or lament today’s circumstances, I try to reflect on the hardships those before us endured—wars, famines, persecutions, and countless trials. Yet they pressed on, finding purpose in each day they were given. Their resilience inspires me to savor every moment and live fully in the present.

Living with this mindset helps me stay rooted in hope and grounded in God’s purpose for my life. Instead of longing for the past or fearing the future, I choose to embrace today with gratitude and determination. And I invite you to do the same.
