An epic battle for hoops supremacy took place recently in the Haworth Gymnasium at Kokomo High School. The Bona Vista All-Stars took on a ragtag array of local celebrities in a basketball match-up for the ages.
Led by such luminaries as Mayor Tyler Moore, Center Township Trustee Drew Durham, and Kokomo High School Vice Principal Kelly Barker, the Celebrities put forth an effort that looked Herculean but turned out to be Sisyphean as the All-Stars repeatedly showed why they have dominated the annual Bona Vista Programs Inc. Disability Awareness Basketball Game.
The many spectators in attendance cheered on both teams throughout the game, and they were entertained by a variety of extracurricular activities during breaks in the basketball action.
They were treated to a pair of performances by current and future Kokomo High School Dance Team dancers, along with a pop-a-shot contest and a Chuck-a-Duck competition.
But this night belonged to the All-Stars, who showed once again that a disability can't stop people from excelling. And Kokomo proved it is a community that celebrates and embraces them.
