There wasn’t anything scary about the IU Kokomo Lady Cougars on Halloween night. They defeated IU Columbus by a score of 3-2 at Kokomo Municipal Stadium on Oct. 31, giving a treat to the 300 fans in attendance at the team’s last home game of the season.
The Lady Cougars established themselves early in the game, as Kelsi Hoot scored the first goal of the evening just one minute into the match, with an assist from Jaidin Millsaps. Hoot struck again at 24:37 to make the score 2-0.
At the 30-minute mark, IU Kokomo found the back of the net with a goal from Addison Waller, assisted by Bryn Roberts. That would be all the scoring the Cougars managed, but it was enough.
IU Columbus came back with scores at 36:37 and 45:00, but the Cougars held off their opponents for the remainder of the match. It was a busy night for Kailee Moore at the net. She made five saves against seven shots on goal, including one with just 40 seconds left to play, preserving the win for the Cougars.
The win at home would be IU Kokomo's last. They traveled to Shawnee State University on Nov. 2 and finished with a tie. They then entered the River States Conference tournament, exiting on Nov. 6 with a 3-0 loss to West Virginia University Tech.
The Lady Cougars finished the season with a 6-9-4 record. Hoot led the team with 13 points -- five goals and three assists. Mackenzie Gibbons scored 10 points on five goals for the season. Moore saved 79 percent of the shots taken by IU Kokomo's opponents, blocking 146 scoring attempts.
