There is plenty to do on any given weekend in Kokomo. You just have to know where to look. More often than not, that search can start and end in downtown.

For those looking for a sale or a great deal, downtown fit the bill perfectly last week. The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department hosted a community rummage sale at Kokomo Beach, and the Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market was fully loaded with fall-themed gifts and fresh produce.

The rummage sale drew a decent crowd and boasted a good variety of items, from the crafty handmade item vendors to the traditional rummage sale purveyors. And it benefitted from the Relay for Life that took place in Foster Park, a short walk across the Wildcat Creek.

Whether it was handmade pet beds, gently used shoes and clothing, odds and ends and collectibles, or even 3D-printed items, the rummage sale seemed to channel the flea market spirit.

And at the farmers market, it was time to grab Halloween decorations, late-season sweet corn and other assorted vegetables, baked treats and sweets, and freshly made donuts.

While the rummage sale was a one-shot affair, the Kokomo Farmers Market still has two more Saturdays on the calendar. It will reopen this Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at the corner of Mulberry and Washington streets.
