Family Services Association Inc. has received a $30,000 grant from the Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (“NIPSCO”) and the NiSource Charitable Foundation to renovate the kitchen, dining area and living room at its local Domestic Violence Shelter. These necessary renovations will enhance the shelter's environment and create a more welcoming space for those seeking refuge.
The Family Service Association’s Domestic Violence Shelter has served the community for years by providing a haven for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. However, due to limited resources, the facility was in dire need of updates to its shared common spaces. Recognizing the importance of creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for residents, NIPSCO stepped forward to make an impact.
A client staying at the shelter recently expressed her gratitude, saying, "the kitchen remodel brings new world charm. The ambiance from the living room, dining room and kitchen offers a spectacular flow of coordination and style. Thank you!" The survivor’s words reflect the positive impact these renovations will have on the residents' daily lives.
"We thank NIPSCO and the NiSource Charitable Foundation for providing support to enable our newly remodeled kitchen, living room and dining room,” said Tracy Brown, Manager of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Programs. “It is because of your care and awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault in our community that our clients have a beautiful setting that makes it feel like home."
This generosity demonstrates a deep understanding of the challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence and the importance of providing support beyond the basic necessities. The renovated spaces provide physical comfort and create an environment that promotes healing and empowerment.
“Our company is proud to support our communities and such integral organizations as Family Services Association,” said Karen McLean, NIPSCO public affairs and economic development manager. “The domestic violence shelter staff do an amazing job of serving, nurturing and assisting the many individuals and families who seek refuge and resources in this community.”
The Family Service Association (FSA) is a non-profit organization that promotes healthy families and empowers vulnerable individuals and families through education, prevention, and crisis intervention programs. FSA was established in 1968 and served Howard County for over 55 years.
