The Western Invitational wrestling tournament is the kind of event that lets the grappling community know which local schools and wrestlers are poised to compete for state titles.
This year, dozens of grapplers from Western, Kokomo, Eastern, Tipton, and other area schools gathered for the meet. In all, eight high schools competed at the invitational, including Oak Hill, Marion, Southwood, and Wabash.
In the end, Oak Hill, which is ranked No. 8 in Class 2A, walked away with the team title and two weight-class champions. But Tipton High School also showed well, with Zane Emberton (106 lbs.), William Wolford (165 lbs.), and Branson Adkins (175 lbs.) each winning their weight class.
Western’s Brady Shannon came away victorious at 113 lbs. Kokomo’s Gabe Newland was also a winner. Full results from the invitational were not reported.
