KayLynn Christianson
KayLynn Christianson passed away on September 15, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loved ones. She was tenderly taken care of until the very end by family, friends, and her amazing caretakers. KayLynn was born in Moorhead, Minnesota, on December 10, 1943, to Dr. Clayton Tillisch and Dorothy Tillisch. As a child, she loved summers on Pelican Lake and spending time with her family. She was a long-time resident of Kokomo, Indiana. Kay was active in her church, PEO, and Symposium. Kay was deeply spiritual, and her faith and love for the Lord was at the center of everything she did. She enjoyed golf, reading, gardening, walks on the beach, the sound of the ocean, and good chocolates. Kay always loved fashion and was able to fulfill a dream of opening a women’s clothing store, Natty’s, with her good friend for several years. She was never happier than when she was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For her, there was no greater joy than spending time with her family.
Kay met her husband, Carmen, for the first time when she was only 14 years old. Later in college, they would fall in love and marry on February 24, 1964. They raised four children together, ran a business together, traveled, and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. They were in love and devoted to each other for 60 years. Carmen was the love of her life and cared for her tenderly, never leaving her side until the very end.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Kay. To know her was to love her. Her vibrant personality was contagious. She had a gentle spirit and a kind heart. She was slow to anger and always the first to lend a helping hand. She is proceeded in death by her parents; her brothers Craig Tillisch and Donald Tillisch; and son-in-law, John “Bunker” Sands. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Carmen Christianson; four children, Gayle Sands, Kelly Brown, Carl Christianson, and Eric Christianson; her grandchildren, Allison Brown, Libbi Canady (Zac), Jenni Coss (Brian), Clayton Brown, Courtenay Sands, and Kathryn Sands; her great-grandchildren, Haven Dahl, Abel Canady, Iris Canady, Nora Canady, Willow Coss, and Eden Canady; siblings, Jill O’Leary (Kevin), Bruce Tillisch (Kathy), and Jack Tillisch; sisters-in-law, Susan Tillisch and Janet Tillisch; as well as many other close friends.

Where does one start when writing an obituary for a parent or loved one?

So many things like racing his remote-control car, going fishing at the Wabash River, hanging out with his family and friends, had a green thumb for plants, and he loved his pool game. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He was a “Joe of all trades.”
