Eugene Kendrick Britton Carter

Eugene Kendrick Britton Carter, 80, Kokomo, passed away at 2:44 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his home. He was born January 31, 1944, in Colp, Illinois, the son of the late Joseph Kendricks & Johnnie (Nelson) Dean. On May 1, 1994, he married Gail Logan who survives.

Eugene was a 1964 graduate of Newport High School. He is in the Athletic Hall of Fame in Newport and the Hall of Fame in Kentucky. He retired in 2016 from General Motors after 38 years of service. After retirement he went to work for McKinley School as a custodian. Eugene was a member of Center Road Church of Christ. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and participated in numerous bowling leagues. When Eugene was younger, he played basketball in school. He loved doing home projects, traveling, and visiting family. He also loved family get-togethers and was a lifelong learner of anything and everything.

Along with his wife Gail, Eugene is also survived by his children, Elizabeth Carter, Jeanine (Vincent) Hill, Michelle Carter, Marcella Carter and Alexis Carter; bonus children, Kenon (Shalanda) Bell, Kendra Bell and Kimberly Bell; sister, Virinda Garland-Doddy; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; best friend, Pete Kramer; and his pet Riley, who misses you very much.

Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Kendricks; mother and stepfather, Johnnie and George Dean; brother, Thomas Carter.

A memorial service will be held at Noon Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Center Road Church of Christ, 899 W. 300 S., Kokomo, with Pastor Lynn Brust officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Joan Renee King

Joan Renee King, 61, of Kokomo, passed away at 8:05 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Indiana University Health Hospital. She was born September 10, 1962, in Kokomo, to Frank and Shirley (Kitts) King.

Joan graduated from Eastern High School in 1981. She worked as a custodian at Indiana University Kokomo for the past eight years. She attended Abundant Life Church.

Survivors include her sons, Kamron, Aaron, and Konner Wyant; parents; Frank and Shirley King; and sisters, Robin Kingseed and Leslie King.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Gary Hoover officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made out to Aaron Wyant to assist with end-of-life expenses. Michael Eugene Bannon

Michael Eugene Bannon, age 67, of Atlanta, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024. He was born on November 18, 1956, to the late Donald M. Bannon and Jane (Holloway) Bannon. Michael lived a life marked by independence and personal strength.

A devoted outdoorsman, Michael found joy and peace in mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. His love for these activities was a testament to his adventurous spirit. Michael was also a skilled mason for several years, known for his meticulous work and dedication to his craft. After retiring from masonry, he continued his career as a truck driver. Even in his chosen solitude and quiet, he was a devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports and participating in activities. Michael was incredibly proud of his family, and he will be greatly missed.

Michael is survived by his siblings, Mary Bannon and Steve (Deb) Bannon; his children, Michael Shane (Michelle) Bannon and Elizabeth Bannon; his grandchildren, Brayden Michael Bannon and Brianna Michelle Bannon. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jane Bannon, and his brother, Robert Bannon.

Derek Carl Brandt

Derek Carl Brandt, 63, of Kokomo, passed away at 11:11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. He was born May 2, 1961, in Fort Wayne, to Donald R. and Dorothy M. (Stirlen) Brandt.

Derek attended South Side High School in Ft. Wayne and served in the United States Navy from 1978 to 1982. He later worked as a security guard and had worked for the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and the Hallmark Inn.

Survivors include his siblings, Donald Richard “Rick” Brandt, Jr., Fort Wayne, David Charles “Dave” Brandt, Las Vegas, Dorothy Susan “Sue” Brincefield, Auburn, and Daryl “Scott” Brandt, Lafayette; and his beloved cat, Thor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorrie Mae Brandt.
