Norma Jean (Durr) Spangler

Norma Jean (Durr) Spangler, 91, of Kokomo, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Century Villa Health Care & Rehab. She was born on November 4, 1932, the daughter of John Sylvester and Rosa Mae (Grau) Durr. On April 6, 1952, she married Charles Henry Spangler, and he preceded her in death on October 18, 2022.

Norma graduated from Northwestern High School in 1950 and was the class Valedictorian. She previously worked at Stellite and did the bookkeeping for the family farm and Spangler Seed Co. Norma enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and freezing. She loved being a farmer’s wife, spending time with her family, and her pets, especially her cockatiel. Norma was a lifelong member of the Kokomo Zion Church where she provided many funeral dinners with the help of Kokomo Zion’s women’s group.

Norma is survived by her children, Dr. Greg Spangler, Mike (Pami) Spangler, and Susan (Curt) Silvey; brother-in-law, John Troyer; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband Charles, Norma was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Spangler; siblings, Wilford Durr, Mary Richey, and Baby Durr; and sibling-in-laws, Mary Kendall, Ruth Moore, June Troyer, Norma Lamb, and Eugene Spangler.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Kokomo Zion Church, 5051 County Rd E 400 N, Kokomo, with Pastor Jeanne Winter officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Zion Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, at the church.
