What kind of wine goes with a Ken Follett novel? Is a Sauvignon blanc acceptable to sip while reading "Divergent?" What book goes best with a light meal and a stout beer?

Dozens of local avid readers descended upon The Coterie last month for the Kokomo Howard County Public Library's Books and Booze event. Some bought and traded novels over dinner and drinks. Others just perused the literary offerings and absorbed the atmosphere.

But everyone appeared excited to share their love of books -- and booze -- with like-minded aficionados. In fact, so many attended the library's event that The Coterie was standing room only at times during the event.

This book fair for adults featured books from the Friends of the Library collection, which consists of books that have been eased out of circulation and books that have been donated but already exist in the library's collection. The Friends hold an annual book sale separate of Books and Booze, but organizers said that this event is every bit as popular.

Participants could bring up to five gently loved books of their own to trade for new reads, or they could simply donate them to the collection. They also could purchase books as they saw fit.

And after poring over the tomes in search of a new adventure, the bookworms enjoyed drinks and burgers from The Coterie's menu. And they even got a commemorative cup to take home.

Books and Booze is just one of dozens of events organized by the library every month, and many of them are aimed at adult readers. To review upcoming activities, book clubs, and more, visit www.khcpl.org and click on Events.
