The boys and girls swimmers from Lewis Cass High School traveled to Kokomo on Jan. 27 to face to Katfish and came away with a split decision. The Kokomo boys’ team prevailed, 104-59, while the Lady Kings outpaced their opponents, 91-84.

The Katfish won six races. Tae Ow Kanayama took the 100 M butterfly, and Hayden Moore finished first in the 100 M freestyle. Oliver Taskey was fastest in the 200 M individual medley, and Ethan Lytle went the distance in the 500 M freestyle.

Kokomo also registered team wins in the 200 M freestyle relay with Kanayama, Moore, Taskey, and Isaac Flamino, and in the 400 M freestyle relay with Carter McClain, Hutch Munsey, Andre Gomez, and Lytle.

The girls' meet generated a number of close finishes, with the Lady Kings coming out on top despite Kokomo winning 10 of the 12 events.

Indeed, the Katfish couldn't overcome Lewis Cass' depth. They had to spot the visitors 10 points by virtue of not fielding divers for the meet. Hannah Penn brought home the points in that contest. But Kokomo touched the wall first repeatedly.

Topping the leaderboard four times was Milla Hawkins in the 100 M freestyle, 200 M freestyle, 200 M medley relay, and 200 M freestyle relay. Joining her with four wins was Aubrey Simmons in the 100 M backstroke, 100 M breaststroke, 200 M medley relay, and 200 M freestyle relay.

Morgan Rakestraw also snatched four medals, finishing first in the 50 M freestyle, 100 M butterfly, 200 M medley relay, and 400 M freestyle relay.

Alyssa Frederick was a triple winner in the 200 M freestyle relay, 400 M freestyle relay, and 500 M freestyle.

Maddie Armstrong won twice in the 200 M medley relay and 400 M medley relay, as did Bethany Burns.

In addition to Penn, Maryn Zeck was a winner for Lewis Cass in the 200 M individual medley.
