The Howard County Sheriff's Department said good-bye on Jan. 6 to a very good boy. K9 Officer Storm retired from the department and was honored by the Howard County Commissioners as employee of the month.
Storm, whose handler is Sgt. Steve Klein, served the county for eight years prior to his retirement at age 11. The commissioners released the dog into the care of Klein so that he can enjoy his retirement among family.
"(Klein) has handled two canines his career for a combined 17 years of service," said Commissioner Brad Bray as he presented the employee of the month award to Storm. "K9 Storm served this community and communities throughout Indiana and assisted on numerous bomb threats and call-outs. (He) has been instrumental in tracking, assisting deputies, and capturing numerous offenders throughout his career."
Storm was the second K9 officer handled by Klein, who previously led K9 Mac for the sheriff's department.
"Sgt. Klein has been a mentor to many handlers in his career, and Howard County is a safer community due to the sacrifice from Sgt. Klein and K9 Storm," said Bray.
As Storm and Klein were presented with the employee of the month award, Commissioner Jack Dodd add his praise for the duo.
"The kind of work the dog does is just simply amazing," said Dodd. "We're thankful to have had that resource."
Kokomo Police make meth arrest
On Jan. 10, 2025, at approximately 11:24 a.m., officers with the Kokomo Police Department’s Drug Task Force and “A” Watch Patrol Division arrested Danielle Bradley on a warrant for six counts of Dealing Methamphetamine; three Level 2 felonies and three Level 4 felonies. Two of the charges were for Dealing Methamphetamine in the Presence of a Minor.
Officers also executed a search warrant at Bradley’s residence, locating four handguns, suspected methamphetamine, numerous syringes, digital scales, and paraphernalia. All of the items located were accessible to juveniles in the home. During the investigation into Bradley, a total of 42 grams of methamphetamine was seized from her.
Danielle was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Child Neglect.
