Homecoming week is typically one of celebration in high school. Themed days, convocations, pep rallies, and a variety of other festivities take place, which each school putting its own spin on the tradition.

This year, a long-lost homecoming ritual returned to Kokomo High School. Powderpuff football barreled its way onto Walter Cross Field last week, and the girls were eager to resume the competition.

Teams from each class were mustered for a flag football tournament, and nothing so annoying as a little rain was about to stop the contests. The spry freshmen were pitted against the worldly seniors, with the elder class prevailing amid smiles and laughter.

The junior class showed off its speed against a sophomore class that fully embraced the football game with an intent to enjoy every moment. The juniors prevailed, setting up a contest with the seniors.

In the final, the smiles were still evident on both sides of the ball, but there definitely was a bit more heat between the two. The blocks hit a bit harder. The scores felt a bit more triumphant.

Despite having the advantage of an additional year of maturity, the seniors faltered against the juniors, allowing the underclassmen to claim the 2024 Powderpuff title.
