Man evading warrant stopped by SWAT

On Thu., July 18, at approximately 8 p.m., detectives with the Howard County Violent Crimes Sheriff’s Office Task Force Unit observed Xavier Brown, a known and wanted subject out of Howard County, in the area of 400 block of South Washington Street. When detectives attempted to make contact with Brown, a foot pursuit occurred. During the foot pursuit, detectives observed Brown was in possession of multiple firearms.

Brown was observed entering the backyard of 415 S. Washington St. Due to a weapon being presented during the foot pursuit, the Howard County SWAT team was activated. SWAT secured the residence, and Brown was located on the property and taken into custody without incident.

Brown is currently being held in the Howard County Jail. Detectives located two firearms on the property and one at a nearby business. One firearm recovered had an altered/removed serial number. Xavier Brown, 19, was charged with:

RESISTING LAW ENFORCEMENT DEF DRAWS A WEAPON, ETC., CLASS 5 FELONY

WEAPON/INSTRUMENT OF VIOLENCE- ALTERED GUN IDENTIFICATION, CLASS 5 FELONY

POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A DANGEROUS PERSON, A MISDEMEANOR

WARRANT ISSUED OUT OF HOWARD SUPERIOR COURT 2

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit, Kokomo Police Department’s K-9 Unit, the Kokomo Police Patrol, the Kokomo Fire Department and Howard County EMA assisted the Howard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.
